Top 10 Dorm Room Essentials - Part 2
With the right items you can transform chaos into calm
By Professional Organizer, Kim Salisbury
Hi again! You had to know this was coming. I couldn’t stop at just 10 dorm essentials. So here is Part 2 of the Top 10 Dorm Room Essentials when heading back to college.
1. Standing Fan
Most dorms don’t have AC, so a fan is a must. The experts all say a standing fan is the way to go, so it won’t take up space on the desk.
2. Noice Canceling Headphones
Where were these when I was in college? If there is any way to tune out distractions and buckle down to study, it’s with noise canceling headphones.
3. Extra Long Phone Charger
If you’re on the top bunk, and the plug is down at the bottom of the wall, you were going to need a long charging cable.
4. Door Stopper
Those dorm room doors are heavy! You will want to prop the door open without having to stack a bunch of books to keep it from closing. A simple door stopper will do the trick.
5. Lighted Makeup Mirror
Double sided, lights up, and it’s cordless and rechargeable! The less wires in a dorm room, the better.
6. Desk Lamp
Gone are the days of a lamp just being a lamp. Why not get a lamp with adjustable color shades, a timer, a USB port that’s also a charger?
7. First Aid Kit
There will be spills and accidents. Kids will always need bandaids. An all in one first aid kit is the way to go.
8. Air Purifier
These kids will get sick the first year, no way around it. To help ward off the germs, try an air purifier for the dorm room. This one comes with great reviews.
9. Shower Caddy
A must have. Some kids prefer the plastic caddy with the handle. Some kids like the mesh bag you can hang on a hook. I prefer the mesh bag as you can hang it in shower and water runs right through it. Either way, you have to have one to carry back and forth. Here are links to both options.
10. Tool Box
Every kid needs one. Even if they only use it once, they will be glad the have it. Plus it will follow them from dorm to apartment and further.
